"We found a baby snake in our grass and Elle picked it up and said, Diana says do not pet it this way as it will hurt it (moving her hands backwards in snake) and if you want to hold it you hold your hands like this (loosely) so you don’t hurt it. If you want to keep holding it you move your hands like this (moving her hands in front of each other). Elle also got a sting at home one day and asked if I knew what plantain was. Of course I thought she was referring to the banana like fruit. But she said no, it was a plant that is edible. She explained to me how Diana had gotten stung by a wasp, found a patch of plantain, chewed it and rubbed it on her sting to help the pain. Then she looked at our grass and said, look! There’s some right there! I quickly looked up plantain to ensure her story was correct and sure enough, plantain is an anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial plant. So, despite its bitter taste I chewed some up and rubbed it in her sting, just as she explained Diana had done. Right away she sighed with relief! Thank you for teaching my girl such an incredible skill! Rowe’s problem solving skills, interest in whittling and love for being outside in nature has grown immensely! Krystal greeted both of my children each day with a huge smile and clear affection for them both! It made me so happy to know I was leaving them in caring, loving and responsible hands! We are so thankful for ALL of the amazing educators! I am so hopeful my two can join forest camp again next summer!”
